Fire Alarm & Signaling Systems

Fire alarm systems play a critical life safety role within a building or structure and can also be used to initiate means of controlling and suppressing fires.

PDI’s staff of licensed Fire Protection Engineers and NICET accredited technicians offer a full and comprehensive range of engineering services in the field of automatic fire detection and alarm systems.

The range of services that are provided by PDI, include:

Site Surveys and Hazard Assessment: Buildings and sites are surveyed to determine the site conditions, possible fire hazards, and establish system design goals and options. During the survey, any special site considerations are also assessed and accounted for. Clients are encouraged to be involved in this process to aid in surveying the site and assist in gathering data and inventory of flammable and combustible materials that may be present. Building characteristics that are not apparent on architectural plans are noted for incorporation in the system design.

Code Compliance: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) design guides and codes, and Factory Mutual (FM) standards are researched. Recommendations are then made to clients for compliance with applicable codes and provide the best solution for their fire detection and alarm needs.

Project Specification Document: Site specific, detailed fire detection and alarm specifications are produced by PDI’s staff of licensed engineers. The sealed engineering documents describe a method of protection for a specific set of hazards. Detailed design documents ensure that bidders understand the systems requirements and can accurately provide the scope of work.

Construction Administration: Our licensed professionals oversee the project from the review of design and shop drawings to installation and final inspection testing. PDI reviews fire alarm submittals to ensure that they are code compliant and meet the requirements of the published specification, flag any missing components that may lead to fire alarm permitting delays, and identify components that needlessly increase the cost of the system.
